Located on the northwest coast of Africa, the Canaries are made up of seven volcanic islands: Tenerife, Gran Canaria ,Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, Fuerteventura, and El Hierro. The park is home to Mount Teide, the tallest mountain in Spain, which stands 3,781 metres above sea level. It is also the third largest volcano on the planet. Tenerife's capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is known for its beautiful golden beaches, busy port, long harbour, and magnificent museums.

Holidays in the Canary Islands are famous for their volcanic black-sand beaches. The contrasting shores of Lanzarote offer golden sands in the north and volcanic black sands in the south. The numerous beaches are perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying a wealth of water sports. Fuerteventura is the closest island to the African coast and offers more than 150 beautiful beaches - the largest measuring 61 miles in length and 19 miles in width. Gran Canaria is known for its magnificent Maspolomas sand dunes, pretty palm-lined promenades, exciting nightlife and bustling capital. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the biggest city in the Canary Islands and, alongside Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is the capital of the Canaries.
